Entrepreneur?

I am having difficulty in choosing my favourite and most inspired entrepreneur, but have narrowed it down to Richard Branson, Bill Gates, and Steve jobs.

Who would you choose?

Re: Entrepreneur?

Depends-

Bill Gates was a bit of a thief and braniac, but brilliant

Jobs was a creative genius and visionary, but an a-hole

Branson is eccentric and successful, but I am unsure how stable his company's long term future will be (I have not read enough about him to make a firm decision)

I guess in the end, I would go with Warren Buffet

Re: Entrepreneur?

Nice Choice,

you forgot to mention Richard Branson is also an a-hole haha. But considering he hasn't even been to university look at his achivement.  Virgin media, Virgin rail, virgin atlantic, galactic, virgin hot air baloons, cola, virgin records, Virgin racing.

Re: Entrepreneur?

My thoughts on Steve Jobs.  He may have been an a hole but ....most brilliant people are.  Bill Gates stole his idea from others; Jobs didn't.  Gates  believes in a monopoly and will do what he has to do to push others out of the way.  Jobs was a visionary and didn't succumb to the Gates' of the world.

I vote for favorite in US is Jobs.

Vote for entrepreneur in another country?    What about Carlos Slim?  Forbes had him as more rich than Gates.

Re: Entrepreneur?

Come on, we're all sales people!

Ron Popiel

First saw him when I was just 7-8 years old, at the Montgomery County Fair, just outside of Dayton, Ohio, selling Kitchen Magicians.  I remember my mother buying one that day.  This is also the same guy who sold 13.5 MILLION pocket fisherman units, an item absolutely no one needed.  And they are collector items today.  Knives, fake spray hair, ballons to put in the middle of two car garages so you didn't dent the other car, it goes on and on.

Decades later, there he was on a BW special, being interviewed by Barbara Walters, explaining why he made a comeback after retiring...

That oven thingy with only a timer and the heat-wasting glass cover? - They shot a 30 minute informercial, cost about $100,000 up front.

Then they ran it over 6-8 cities at a time on a chosen weekend, at least 10 times a weekend. (One to two times per city)

Total sales each weekend cycle?  Between 5 and 8 million dollars, of which he had to pay for the TV time, 1-800 call centers, and logistic warehousing and shipping to send them all out.  The real secret?  Most of the cost of the unit was rolled into the overinflated "shipping and handling".  In other words, he made about 30% of that gross, or 1.5 to 2.4 Million a weekend. I cannot think of anyone else in this country who could do that on a weekend, week after week after week, short of pro sports.

Re: Entrepreneur?

Hands down it has to be John Derek, he married Bo Derek, and at least four other hot actresses...made money off them and even after the divorces...they ALL had nice things to say about him....that beats Donald Trump, Buffett, etc so forth...case closed

Re: Entrepreneur?

Mine would have to be Dave Ramsey. Success followed by massive failure. He learned from his mistakes, and is back in the success realm. His morals also fall in line with my own, so it's an inspiring story followed by someone I'm ok with calling a role model (insert Charles Barkley quote here).
