Want people to return your emails?

This link appeared in my LI news feed a week or so ago.  I bookmarked it, and thought it might be timely to post. This goes into more than than words not to use.  It also provides insight in how people review email, and tips on actionable words and timing of messaging.  There have been several discussions about timing of sent email for optimal impact.

Re: Want people to return your emails?

What an enormous flaw in the study. 5AM? Who reads work email at 5AM? What working professional is at work.

I suspect there is some time zone effects that they are not taking in account. If they are emailng off of the west coast to their ewast coast customers, then 8AM is the appropriate time.

5AM defies all logic. This study is very flawed in this aspect. I can't beleive everything else; even though the analysis of the various data points were extremely interesting and well presented.

Anyone have an explanation for the time issue?

Not a flaw or unusual.  Many senior executives are up that early reviewing email before going into the office.

I myself get up at 5, start the coffee, and what's next?  Check my work and personal email.

Best time to catch a senior exec at their desk is 6:45-7a before the admin shows up.  They often answer their phone then, too.

I'm still getting my beauty sleep at 5AM. I guess it might pay off to be ugly so I will set my alarm earlier and try this.

That is great.  Thanks for the info.  I have to agree that I much prefer to come in early and get my day going when nobody else is around.  That is my most productive time.  The phones tend to not ring much at that time.  Great time to check my email and organize my day.

I don't get up at 5am but i know some senior staff in my company and other companies that are up at that hour either for a restroom visit, email check and back to bed, or to start the day at the gym.

After testing my newsletter omn Mail Chimp for six months. I get more opens when sent at 7:30 am than any other time. 6 and 8 am are equal as a percentage of opens.

Great way to test timing.  Are you sending across multiple time zones, or all local?
