Rainmaker promotion grand prize winner - a special story

Last weeks Orange County Rainmaker Roadshow was quite a memorable event, for several reasons, but one specifically I would like to share.  

Some of you may remember the exclusive Rainmaker promotion we hosted this past spring?  If so, you will remember it was out of this world with prizes totaling over $50,000.  All Rainmaker’s had to do was be top data contributors during this time frame to win.  Winners were then entered into a grand prize drawing for a dream vacation of their lives.  Looking back, I think many didn’t believe this was a real contest.  I can understand why.

Over the course of 18-weeks, we handed out sixty $500 gift cards, twelve 3G iPads and awarded one lucky Rainmaker with a grand prize that would end up being the best gift we ever gave away.  Roundtrip tickets for two any where in the world, six nights hotel and $300 day cash for seven days.  Awesome prize, right?

The winner was picked and we were thrilled to be awarding this amazing grand prize to one of our most active Rainmakers, BigBadJohn.  But the strangest string of events happened that we couldn’t understand.  BigBadJohn was unreachable.  He wasn’t answering any of our emails or calls, nor was he being active on Jigsaw, now Data.com.  You can imagine our bewilderment day after day over our low cube walls.

A couple weeks later, I decided to call him one last time before we would need to pick a new winner. Low and behold, John picked up the phone.  Come to find out, BigBadJohn had been sick with pneumonia and had almost lost his life.  He spent months in the hospital and rehab before he was strong enough to go home.  Needless to say, we were ecstatic he was home & healthy.

We consider our Rainmakers part of our Data.com family and were very taken back by this news.  We hung on to the travel vouchers and waited for him to heal.  Why this Roadshow specifically was special?  We were finally able to personally award BigBadJohn with his grand prize.  It was definitely one of those moments you won't forget and that you are happy you got to be a part of.

Way to go BigBadJohn. We're so glad we could capture this moment with you.
