Lately, I have seen some very arbitrary changes made to my new company adds in what I think is an attempt to fool the system and gain points. Every now then, I slip when I enter a company but since I don’t do bulk uploads and I research each company on a one by one basis, I am darn sure of my information before I input.
Some of the updates done to my new companies have been things like changing the business type from one business to another. Now believe me, I understand the difference between a company that does automobile repair and a hotel. So, I have a pretty clear concept of where a company should be placed. But for grins let’s debate the following. Where this company should be placed:
A WINERY is it:
(A) A Beer, wine Liquor store.
(B) Adult Entertainment (just kidding)
(C) Farming and Ranching
(D) Wholesale distribution
What if you say, “Well it’s all three?” Okay, it could be, but what if the original owner that input the information only used, (A) Beer Wine and Liquor? Should he/she lose the company within the first 30 days because a “new company sniper”, (my term) decided it looked ripe for stealing and added (c) Farming and Ranching? I say heck no!
The example above is only an example but it points to a problem in several areas; First we need to get better definitions of the industries that companies are actually in. The ones we currently use are too few and too broad. For example, should mental health care and counseling be lumped with Physicians? Next, we need a lookup menu that will help those that are trying to do the right thing to list the company in the right industry. Finally, do not strip ownership of a company because someone changes the industry designation in the first thirty days. Yes, some of them are grossly wrong and should be changed. But that is not a reason to allow the abusers looking for points to continue to try to snipe.
I could go on about other things like minor name changes and changing the physical address to a PO Box instead, just to grab the company but I will stop here. What do you see happening? And what changes do you see that need to be made?
Currently when exporting companies, the webiste is exported, but not the Domains that appear in the Family Tree tab of a Company. It would be great if there was a way to export these domains.
It's recently been pointed out that some members who are not actual abusers get a rating so low that they can never realistically recover - because they don't understand how the system works or some other unusual circumstance. I'm suggesting a Rainmaker Rehab program for such members - it wouldn't be easy, and they'd have to be sponsored by at least one MVP and have outstanding behavior for an extended period of time. But at least it would provide a way out for those currently stuck in the Valley of Prospector Doom.
With DP running amok yarding tons of contacts and causing everyone to lose some and receive penalty points, wouldn't it be useful if we had a hyperlink on the penaity item in your points history so we could quickly review DPs work? Or any reason we sometimes get a penalty?
Here why this could be a valuable addition:
1. Great way for members at large to keep an eye on DPs work. I just manually went through a company where it had yarded several contacts of mine and all were vaild for "bad emails" but really the underlying reason was the contacts had moved on to other companies.
2. Since some of us are not receiving lost royalty reports, though we have asked for them, it provides another quick way to review specific reasons one gets penalized.
How about a board of Community members that once or twice a year have a Skype conference call with some of the engineers who program Jigasw so that some of the better ideas from the MIX get there due and perhaps get implemented?
How about 6 key members to start off?....like Hecko, Kerrick, KindDate, Stingray, Granbit and someone recommend the 6th or others who might be of value. Board to be made up of MVPs and/or DDs.
Mission: Initially take the top rated or voted for ideas from the MIX and present/discuss them in an hour Skype call to one or more of the SEs who program Jigsaw twice a year.
The board can discuss which ideas to present beforehand as well as determine how to present them in the best light - pros/cons - plus choose who would be the most effective presenter. After such meetings, the board can present their take-aways and impressions here so other members can review and comment on.
Limit total time at 6 hours per year for this board - 1 hour prep per virtual meeting, 1 hour meeting and 1 hour to wrap up and present results to us here in the MIX.
I can't help but think this could have a HUGE positive impact on future releases like the upcoming one.....and oh my goodness, Jigsaw gets all this precious advice for free! WIN-WIN-WIN and yes, WIN!
Why this idea? I have been reading many of the MIX ideas lately and will continue to do so. Many ideas seem very useful and worth serious consideration......but it looks like most are not implemented or commented on by Jigsaw staff......G_d knows why?? Maybe a direct linkage between core, all-star members here, MIX ideas and the SEs who write the code will help to change that....and greatly improve the platform.
What do you think?
I feel like polls are a great way to get people involved in discussion topics. I've seen many websites that have homepage polls (ESPN, gamefaqs.com, CNN) as well as some that have user generated polls. I would love to be able to poll my fellow salesfolk on their thoughts/opinions. This would work especially well in the All Things Sales boards.
We all know that Puzzlemaster, SuperDeDuper, Pinger, Reaper, and some others I've forgotten are bots. But lately the bots are disguised as regular users with names like DampPiano67, and some others I've seen making updates to company locations. Why? I think it would be helpful for members to know which actions have been taken by bots and which by human members, and it would be very helpful to clearly identify the bots and their roles.
As a field sales rep you constantly run across buyers who ask you for stuff you don't have? Wouldn't it be neat to add these sales opportunities to the company profile, or if purchaser specific to the purchaser's profile.
For example, I sell software, in some cases mobile software to service industries for their field workers. I find out form my purchasing contact that they are looking for 25 new vans to add to their fleet. I don't sell vans, but someone using Jigsaw in the Denver Colorado area might be.
Conversely if I was a car salesperson, I could subscribe to a search for all automobile, van, truck puchases or lease opportunities in Colorado. I would buy an opp much like a contact. When enterred the opportunity would have a built in expiry date, which could be extended or closed out by the first rep that has closed the deal or been disappointed that someone else got the deal. At least they could close out the opp in Jigsaw for five points.
By tracking all these opps by type and perhaps by zeroing in on a particular company, one could get a very detailed picture of whether purchasing in general was up or down at that firm. From a salesperson's point of view, having access to contact information from Jigsaw is great. Could you imagine the timely value of deal specific information from Jigsaw too?
Your thoughts?
Most of the data that is added to Jigsaw simply sits in the database and is never touched. Because of this, the only sure way to know if the contact is still with the company is to call/email them. Every week, I am able to confirm that a sizeable group of employees are still with the company -- I talk to them, they email me, etc. I propose that we add an option to the contact page where a user can "verify" that the contact is still with the company. That way, users can see when a contact was last "verified" and have the option to purchase only "verified" contacts or lists. I also propose that users get the +5 points for making this update and get the penalization for incorrectly "verifying" an individual as well. Contacts that are currently "unverified" can become a community task. This will not only help clean the database, but will assist other users when deciding which contacts they should purchase. I think this system would be better than the current system which just assumes that a contact is still with the company if it is not in the graveyard.
It would be very helpful if there was an option to view 500 and 1000 contacts at 1 time.
200 is not enough...
I have an idea. There are quite a few people I need direct dials for to pass a gatekeeper who loves to offer me voicemail. Currently I make sure the contact is added in Jigsaw and I wait patiently for someone to come along and add a direct dial... if that ever happens. I wish there was a bounty system we could impliment to inspire others to get that direct dial for us... either from a card they picked up or from another source/hard work. We could post a bounty to the contact and if someone was able to get that direct dial they would get the points we put up for it (I would say up to 20-25 points max). Once completed I would get an email then have 5 days to review the direct dial and if I don't appeal the number the points are taken from my account and placed into theirs.
In order to curb abuse of the program to transfer points between profiles we would have to limit it to 20-25 points per bounty and each member is only allowed to post up to 7 bounties a month.

So, for the last week or so, I have seen what is apparently a group of people abusing the referral system, referring 200+ people per day. My guess is that they turn around and use those points right away to download data for free.
I have been working the referrals hard for the last two years. Only one time have I seen anyone legitimately pick up more than 25 referrals in one day.
My suggestion is this. Set up the system to automatically lock any user who refers more than 20 people per day. Let them still earn referral points, in case they are legitimate, but don't let them spend those points that same day. Review the locks when you come in, and unlock the members who may have been locked but are legitimate.
You could also not add points earned by referral for at least 24 hours, or the next business day. The abusers work at night and on the weekends, knowing that regular staff isn't there to stop them.
Since these people keep coming back again and again, Jigsaw has not been able to deter them. Unless this is a purely spiteful attack, the only reason they come back is to gain points to use to download data, which they likely sell on the open market. Keeping them from being able to gain will soon enough stop their abuse.
Bulk discounts are nothing new.
Why not allow a discount from the five points per contact to 4 points to 3 points on a gradiated volume curve for bulk purchases?
This would be another way of rewarding heavy users of Jigsaw.

I'd like to be able to "Build A List", withing Jigsaw, that filters out specifice contact names that I've already purchased (aka, "My Contacts). I'd like this to include all the filter options that are available from the "Build a List" menu, including the option to import a list of Account Names.
Thanks
I'd love to see an option at the time you export data to a csv that would permit you to change the field names in the output csv. I think most folks using Jigsaw import this data to a CRM application of some kind which expects to see it's own field names. The current export/import process requires customers to create and execute an intermediate step to change the field names. This could be eliminated if we had the option to change the csv field names at export. If customers were permitted to change the names and save it as a template, we would only have to go through the process once.
I think it would be a very useful enhancement and suspect it's relatively simple to add to Jigsaw.
I see again that there are 2 new unread comments or posts on the Member Idea Exchange. They are not the very last one - that one I was able to click on and read - they are somewhere in the 38+ pages of ideas that I don't have time to search page by page, without even knowing what I am looking for.
In the past, there was a module under Recent Topics called Latest Posts and it had the most recent 10 or so comments on the MIX. Since that has been done away with, it is very hard to find any posts that were made on these boards other than the very most recent. Can we haz once more?
I was wondering if a new page couldn't be created that would track who is close to making Rainmaker status and who has just made Rainmaker status.
Seeing how this is a true "watershed" moment in the lives of us Jigsaw users, I think it would be great for everyone if we were to somehow more formally recognize this achievement.
Upon reaching that status level, a thread would automatically be started under that users name, where other members of the community, could Kudo said user and express any personal thoughts they wish. Kind of the ultimate in autograph books if you wish.
In addtion, by having "radar" set up on those approaching the Rainmaker status level, it would allow others to help those folks out if they so desired.
An overall timeline feature would be neat as well, where users would be sorted chronologically in terms of when they've actually attained the status. Not sure of the capacity needs of something like that, but I would think it could be broken down into levels like the KUDOS report for example. This week, this month, this year and all time. A visual "Hall of Fame" if you will.
Your thoughts???
We all are using, or should be using, tags on Jigsaw to help us sort through the volume of information that is found on Jigsaw - both by adding tags to our own comments and threads, or by searching for like-minded threads as a method of collating them. There are at times, however, tags that have been attached to our comments that are not objective and that we may prefer to not have associated with our post.
We should have the possibility to edit tags that have been attached to our individual posts and perhaps, in some cases, block certain users from attaching tags to our posts if it can be demonstrated that they are stalking or targeting other individual members.
